Our thoroughness has saved many a tooth or implant by uncovering problems while they are easy to fix.
Our practice is committed to the long-term therapy of our patients. It is well established that patients who are properly treated, keep up their home care, and have appropriate professional visits are very successful at maintaining their teeth for a lifetime. That is worth repeating: Patients who are treated and stay on recommended recall almost never lose any teeth from periodontal disease.
The quality of the recall visit is critical. The protocol we use for each visit is of the highest standards of any practice in the world. We feel your visit is essential as well as the dedication and integrity of our hygienist.
The following are completed at every visit:
- Medical history review with documentation of any new medications
- Dental history review with notation of any new restorations or problems
- Complete oral and cancer exam, including head and neck and all oral soft tissues
- Home-care evaluation
- Home-care instruction
- Periodontal examination. including probing depths, recession, mobility, gum quality, and cavities
- Meticulous instrumentation of the teeth both above and below the gum line
- Selective polishing
- Doctor’s examination
Again, you DO NOT NEED A REFERRAL. It is very important to have a comprehensive dentist, though.
Scaling & Root Planing or Deep Gum Cleaning
Unhealthy gums are the leading cause of early tooth loss. Periodontitis, or gum disease largely comes about from improper home care, and lack of professional cleanings. Some signs of gum disease are bad breath, bleeding gums, swollen or tender gums, or loose teeth due to jawbone loss. Sometimes there can be no symptoms at all. In fact, most people do not even realize that they have gum disease
Gum disease suppresses your body’s immune system and more specifically can cause heart disease, low birth weight in pregnancy, dementia, and respiratory infections. Your mouth is the gateway for your body’s entire immune system.
Deep Gum Cleanings, or Scaling and Root Planing, is the treatment to help fight and remove the sources of these toxins from the root surfaces below the gum-line. Standard dental cleanings only eliminate bacteria from the area of the tooth that can be seen above the gum-line. However, the deep gum cleaning removes the source of the infection which will then allow your gums to heal so that they can re-tighten around your teeth.
With regular professional cleanings and better home care, the effects of gum disease can be suppressed. If deep gum cleaning is needed and not taken care of, the effects will fall on not just your teeth and mouth but your entire body’s system. Gum disease will not go away on its own it needs to be treated promptly!
Dental Implants
Losing one or more of your teeth creates a gap in your smile, affects your ability to chew properly, and can alter your diet and nutrition. While these are all serious issues, did you know that tooth loss also leads to bone loss? When a tooth is lost, the jawbone beneath it begins to shrink (or atrophy) and becomes brittle from lack of exercise. Not only does losing a tooth affect your smile, but it also changes the shape of your face causing you to look prematurely aged.
Individual missing teeth can be replaced by dental implants without altering your healthy adjacent teeth. Once dental implants are placed, posts (or abutments) are attached, providing support for your final crowns.
If all upper or lower teeth are missing, multiple dental implants may be used to support a denture. Due to bone loss, traditional dentures may become loose and unstable over time. Dental implant-supported dentures and maintain bone so dentures remain stable in your mouth.
Fast Braces
Welcome to State-of-the-Art Technology in Orthodontic Care- FASTBRACES TECHNOLOGY FastBraces is a patented, trademarked Orthodontic treatment that involves what appear to be traditional braces however; this is where the excitement begins.
1. FastBraces looks like traditional braces however, teeth are usually straightened in less than six months;
2. FastBraces does not require extractions like traditional braces;
3. FastBraces result in considerably less soreness than traditional braces;
4. FastBraces assist in bone remodeling by mimicking and continuing the light forces of natural eruption.
Firstly, the patented design of the arch wires and brackets seek to move your teeth to an ideal position, as a result, the teeth move to its naturally intended placement. Teeth that are “crooked” or maloccluded are hindered from optimal eruption; FastBraces therefore assists in moving your teeth to the originally intended position.
Secondly, traditional braces generally require all patients to extract four good teeth. Research has determined that since that was not the original intent of our Creator, there is absolutely no need to remove four perfectly good teeth. What Fast Braces does is essentially unravel the teeth that are crowded, line them up and close the spaces where necessary. The result is the top arch matches the bottom arch perfectly.
Thirdly, the added benefit of reduced soreness occurs because FastBraces exerts a torquing force rather than a tipping force. This means the tooth root (within the bone in the mouth) move in one motion laterally, where as in traditional braces, the crown tips, and the root follows creating an unnatural pressure/tension resulting in more cellular inflammation.
Finally, Fast Braces also assist in bone remodeling when teeth are crowded. The crowded tooth usually causes bone lost and increases bacterial build up. Crowded teeth are also more difficult to brush and floss. FastBraces moves the teeth along a natural eruptive path to where they are supposed to be. As a result, the pain or soreness experienced in traditional braces is less and the time it takes to move teeth is usually less than six months versus two years or more.
Essentially, FastBraces is addressing purpose. It utilizes God’s original design and potential of wayward teeth in need of help to come home! Since introducing FastBraces to the practice, it has added great value to our patients and their families by transforming their smiles and boosting their confidence. I hope this information helps, feel free to go online at www.fastbraces.com for more information and proof of results of this amazing new technology.
Perio Protect Methodology
Fighting gum disease requires vigilance and repetition. Fortunately, it doesn’t always require surgery.
We are Certified Providers of the Perio Protect system.
Impressions taken from your mouth are sent to special labs. Since your mouth is unique patented trays will be fitted to match your treatment needs specifically. Once the molds are shipped to the Perio Protect laboratory, it is custom-fabricate mouth guard-like devices designed to gently deliver medication below the gum line. And keep it there to combat infection.
By making gum disease treatment comfortable and convenient, we also make it effective. Killing bacteria is a battle of persistence. And these gentle trays carry out the work while you are taking it easy at home. In only minutes a day, you can dramatically improve your oral health and, have a
positive impact on your body’s overall health. Treating gum disease with Perio Protect positively affects not only your hygiene but also the overall health of your body. It’s also a comfortable option to help reduce the need for repetitive scaling or surgery.
Bacterial clumps, known as a colony or biofilm, can break from their cluster and have a “seeding” effect throughout the rest of the body. Studies have traced germs that lead to gum disease to the same bugs known to cause other systemic inflammation and illness.
Treating gum disease with the Perio Protect Method has been shown to reduce the presence of the most damaging bugs by up to 90%. Gum disease treatment helps reduce the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, respiratory disease, Alzheimer’s disease, Colorectal Cancer and pre-term births and low birth-weight babies.
So, treating your condition is a win, win situation. The benefits are wide reaching.
Fresh Breathe Center
Over 60,000 Bahamians suffer from chronic Bad Breath, called Halitosis. It is embarrassing and could be socially debilitating. We spend lots of money on products to cover up mouth odor. And whether we’re using gum, mints, sprays, or mouthwashes, we are for the most part covering up the cause. We must get to the root and make some sense out of this.
What’s the main cause of mouth odor? Pure and simple, it is dental disease. Some people have stinkier bad breath than others, because some types of bacteria smell worse than others.
Great News- We can measure your breath
Do you know you that today we have aspecial machine that measures the odor that comes out of your mouth? It is called a Halimeter. It measures the rotten egg gas seen in Hydrogen Sulfide, the fecal smell in Methyl Mercapten and the rotten meat odor found in Cadeverine gases. These are the
gases usually responsible for bad breath. Ask us about this cutting-edge technology. At Center for Specialized Dentistry we use Oxyfresh products. Only a capful of chlorine dioxide mouthwash, in Oxyfresh on the back of the tongue along with proper tongue scraping is the treatment to solve the problem.
